Elder Project
My proposal for my elder project would be a book donation drive. When reflecting on what I value, I realize that my education and curiosity for knowledge has been a core part of my character since I was young. I would spend hours and hours reading for fun and, unknowingly, expanding my vocabulary and learning more about the world. So, I figured a relatively efficient way to impact the community while taking my character into mind would be to donate books to the Ripon library. I also believe just on campus and even within myself we often take books for granted, letting them gather dust in our houses, unused. I want to donate books so that they will be used with young children eager to learn more and just simply enjoy themselves with reading. My main goal is to get at least the entire leadership class to donate at least one book, but I know this could go bigger. I could take this to have clubs participate such as Girl’s League or Sacred Heart. Or I could even push it out to the whole school and have donations via English teachers. My goal amount would be 100 books donated. And although this is just a mock up, I would be interested in actually holding this donation drive. Assuming every member of leadership steps in, that is an automatic 40+ books. This goal is easily attainable with enough work and effort, and is so simple. Community service comes in a variety of ways, and this is a way to positively impact our youth and promote their education.
Mock Up Execution of Assignment
Below are the steps that can be taken to accomplish this service project.
- Ask the Ripon Library if donations are being taken
- Set up exact dates for book drive
- Create assignment for extra credit to get donations from leadership class
- Have space reserved for donated items (bins, bags, etc)
- Create publicity for club/school wide participation (posters, social media posts, announcements)
- Collect all books and I take them to the library
