ASB Report August 2019
September 5, 2019
Sophomore Class Admin Assistant
Position Assessment: The sophomore class officers started off the year with attending core camp. We made new connections, formed positive relationships with our class, and strengthened our bond with each other. We learned about facilitative leadership, being comfortable with the uncomfortable, and decided our competition themes. Our Homecoming choice is New York, with the theme of U.S. States. Our winterfest choice is Dungeons and Dragons, for our theme of board games. We designed our class t-shirts and sold them at both Pow Wow and Club Rush, with around 95 sales with Pow Wow alone. Our class gave very positive reviews of our shirts, as well as other grades. We worked together to serve the Student Body at the Back To School BBQ as well. Our officer team has ordered items for our spirit box and Homecoming float. We have a trailer and are forming ideas for our float. We plan to meet with our class and Cutino too in prep for Homecoming.
Standing Committee:
Renaissance: The standing committee I am specifically involved with this year is Renaissance. Lydia and Troy have been making several videos for social media platforms to show the Freshman how to fill out forms and if they are eligible. This is also to clear up any questions with the other grades as well. Renaissance sign ups were in the library the week of August 26-29th. They are going to pass out rewards card for the first semester soon, which the committee will help with.
Council of Elders: Praise day is September 6th, which the seniors will then read the praises out loud.
Publicity & Spirit: Lots of social media posts have been made for the Ripon High facebook page and instagram. As well as social media assignments for each class to mention the event on separate days. We have advertised so far for: Class T-shirt Sales at Pow Wow/Club Rush, Fanny Pack Friday, the dress up days for Club Rush, the BTSD, and the BBQ.
Sports Relations: The sports teams have so far been recognized at the Black Light Rally with games, involving Seniors VS Junior fall sports. There was also a table at Club Rush for Powder Puff sign ups.
Pride Tribe: Pride Tribe has been very successful in keeping the spirit strong at games and rallies. The student body is participating in dress up days and having pride in their class. At football games, the student body is very active in cheering on our team. Pride Tribe has also been selling their own t-shirts, long sleeves for $20 and short sleeves for $15. They sold them at Club Rush and the Football game.
Special committee:
Neon Dance: The special committee I have been involved with so far is for the BTSD. I designed posters after school, as well as advertised on social media. I encouraged everyone who was thinking about it to go.
Black Light Rally: Natalie worked on training Anthony and Katelyn for the rally. We worked on cutting wax paper, colored paper, and making sheets for teachers to give to their students. It was delivered to the fourth period teachers. There were announcements on instagram. There was music from the tech commissioners, set up during third and fourth with the committee, decorations on the floor and in the sections, and games. Cheer and band performed. There were many positive reviews from the student body.
BBQ at RHS: The BBQ ran smoothly with extra time to prepare. Kate and Kassidy got vo
lunteers for the BBQ, talked to the cafeteria workers, got an ice chest for drinks, and set up stations for ordering. All students got out of fourth to set up the tables for the clubs and the stations, as well as the ingredients from the cafeteria. The students enjoyed the food and music, as well as signing up for clubs.
Balloon Arch: The balloon arch committee has so far taught kids at Ripon EL how to make arches, and are most likely going to make an arch for Homecoming.
Concern: I am concerned about Homecoming since there is so much to prepare for, like making sure our class is spirited, designing a float, decorating at the rally and the front of the school, and our Lip Sync. I am also concerned at the freshman beating the sophomores in spirit.
Positive Comment: I am very excited to be working with my officer team this year. Everyone is more than willing to put their fair share of work into our projects. This makes me feel comfortable with trusting them and knowing we can all get the job done and go above and beyond expectations set for us.
One Change I Would Like To See: I would like to see our class actively participate more in dress up days and over all spirit for them. We can encourage this with social media posts.
My Impact: I think I have so far stuck with the core principles and and already become a better person compared to freshman me in August. I have “done better the next time, every time” by improving and learning from the mistakes of me and the freshman representatives. I have made new bonds and reinforced old bonds with my leadership peers according to “not just friends, family”. I have “respected the unexpected” by trying to have a more positive mindset and being open to change. And lastly, I have been “mindful of self” by working on my mental health through a professional and allotted myself more self care time. I have been working hard to become a better person than last year, and so far I have been able to maintain myself, especially since the stress hasn’t started yet. I will work on being able to maintain this even during hard times, like Homecoming, which is soon.
